Each year children from the first classes of our Grammar school attend a ski course, which takes place in the mountains here in Slovakia. This year we went to Kubínska Hoľa, which is a nice ski center located near the small town of Dolný Kubín. I am a first-class student, so this year my class was chosen to go. Of course, our class was glad and agreed to participate.

Celebrating Christmas is probably the most widespread tradition in the Western world. Though it originally was a holiday of peace, harmony and the time of year when the whole family is together, this event often turns into convention. Instead of calm, it brings chaos, anxiety and a lot of money is gone. Wouldn’t it be nice to reminiscence about the essence and the origin of Christmas?

On February 6th, our school hosted its Annual Ball for the fifth year in a row. To make sure that the dining hall was all good to go, the preparations had to be started days in advance before the big Saturday. Even though the ball was held during a teacher’s strike week, the students and teachers worked hard to make sure that everything was well prepared and ready to shine.

Martin Krč, The Linguistic Word Wizard, has done it again! Just like last year, Martin sharpened his pencil, warmed up his pen, or fired up his computer... or whatever he does when he writes something great, and got to work. This year when Martin decided to enter the National Literary Award for Young Writers competition he came at it full tilt. Motivated by the success of last year, Martin came to me with more than 10 stories that he had written to answer the topic of "Crossing Borders" for this year's competition.

 What’s up everybody? Long time no see. As the lot of you probably know, when it comes to competitions, GYMY doesn’t slack off. We utilizes the talents of our numerous students and we participate in them. This time, Bronislava Bendová and Martin Krč from 2.B, Jakub Barszcz from 5.B and Tamara Salibová from Oktáva tried their hand, or more specifically their voice, at a regional rhetoric competition called Master of Rhetor.

The time of English Olympiads came again and many English loving students took their hearts to compete with each other. The tasks were really difficult and the students did an outstanding job. I am proud to say that we are really still getting better and better. So here are the results:

Every year on the last Thursday of November, millions of people in America celebrate Thanksgiving Day. It is a traditional North-American event, which reminds of a story from the past, when a group of people, called the pilgrims, ate a meal with Indians, to give thanks to God for successful survival after a hard year.
