On Thursday, November 13th, eight students from Gymnázium Myjava attended the 1st annual Master of Rhetoric Competition in Trenčín. There were seven students from Gymy’s Bilingual section and one student from the four-year program. These brave souls rose with the sun, boarded a bus, and headed to Trenčín, before most sane people even thought of getting out of their warm beds.
Since learning a language should also include learning the culture of the country, students from the 1.B class celebrated Thanksgiving day in addition to their Halloween event. Students prepared for the celebration throughout the week, making thematic hats (the class was divided into two groups: Pilgrims and Indians), preparing food and inviting their teachers to the event on Wednesday.
Halloween is a traditional event dedicated to remembering the dead; nowadays it is celebrated mostly in English-speaking countries. It includes costumes, visiting houses in the neighbourhood and of course trick-or-treating. There are many symbols of Halloween including carved pumpkins, ghosts, zombies and other wicked creatures that fill the streets on October 31st. It originated in Ireland, and symbolized confronting the power of death through humour and ridicule.
Our school undoubtedly has a very rich and vivid history. This year we celebrate 70 years since its foundation. To mark this milestone, on November 12, the school organised an event which was focused on the last ten-year period between 2004-2014.
On 21st of September we met in front of our school. We were ready... Ready to experience new adventures in England and Scotland.
