Hey guys! It’s me; Robo and I’d like to share my experience of being a foreign Exchange student in the U.S., in Chickasha, Oklahoma, to be precise. Maybe some of you are still thinking about this option so this might help you decide if this is something for you.

My cousin went to the United States three years ago. She said it was an awesome experience and she would recommend the experience of being an exchange student to everyone. She also recommended this to me. At first I could not imagine leaving my home, my family and friends for almost a year, but she inspired me so much that I started looking into it. Then I talked to my parents about it and they were totally astonished. They helped me a lot with figuring stuff out.

After attending the first year at my high school I started to become interested in studying abroad for a year. I read many blogs about other students and spoke to some older students, which were on exchange. My mom supportive, and in the middle of August it was already time to leave. I had to say goodbye to my friends and family. They took me to the Vienna airport and I left for 10 months. I was traveling nineteen hours and I took three planes. When I landed in Rapid City I was glad, because I was exhausted, but I was also excited and full of expectations. My first host family, in Rapid City, was waiting for me at the airport. We took a few pictures and they took me to, what would be, my new home for the next ten months. Rapid City is the second largest city in South Dakota and it is known for Mount Rushmore, which features the faces of four American presidents.

As many of you might know, or might not now, I spent a year in a wonderful country called the United States of America. My adventure began at 4.00 in the morning at the Vienna airport, where I departed on my journey. I had never been in the United States before, and I was anxious about what was waiting for me there. My destination was the giant city of Indianapolis. Would I make any new friends? Would I like my new host family, or was I to be at odds with them? I did not know.
